On a fast Macbook Pro - the GT-100 V2 and GT-001's monophonic Guitar to MIDI latency triggering on Roland Core Audio USB drivers , using Apple Mainstage or Garageband's AU synths is substantially lower than the GT-001 > USB> Windows PC w/ Roland ASIO Audio USB driver experience. The unit has a bunch of knobs and buttons, and includes an LCD display which can be “customised” with a contrast control, and is also backlit for those dark nights alone in your room with only a guitar and the intimidating presence of a Japanese FX unit for company. It performs a single function very well, and that is to take one input, and one input alone, process it in any way you can imagine, in real time, and output it again. In addition, the ability to power the GT-001 with either the included AC adapter or a computer’s USB bus offers great convenience for home setups, studio sessions, and mobile recording with a laptop PC.

An phantom powered XLR input expands the GT-001 capabilities beyond the electric guitar, and allows you to capture vocals and acoustic performances with ease. Edit - from a quick glance on YouTube I think it might well be the midi setup in Reaper that's the issue.

I did however spend some time with the GT Tone Studio doing some basic tweaks on all of the patches to make them more “synthesizer” friendly.

The GT-001 is a convenient wedge-shaped unit that will sit next to your computer with its connections neatly arranged on its end, inputs to the right and outputs to the left. Just plug it into your computer, and all your FX prayers will be answered, if you believe the marketing materials. It’s simple enough to connect though: plug the unit into the computer, and the guitar into the jack marked “guitar” and you’re done with connecting. Thankfully a lot of the more modern units have enough grunt to process all the FX in a timely manner.

The effects are shaping up really nice now and it’s so nice to have such a small, yet powerful effects unit on the Nord Lead. Reverbs, EQ, OD, Delay, Chorus, Comp, and a few other effects were changed to sound better with a synthesizer. Great amp tones, loads of cool effects, some fun synth sounds, guitar to MIDI conversion, and really good editor (for windows at least), and most importantly for me, the note decay sounds natural, like an analog amp. The reason why I was interested in the Boss GT-001 is that it has a build-in guitar to midi converter.

If you want to just turn up and rock (or make pocket calculator based effects ala Kraftwerk) then something like the GT-100 is going to be more suitable. I’ll update this post further with additional thoughts as I progress with the Boss GT-001 effect processor. It (inexplicably, for me) just doesn’t do that, and it’s the main criticism I have for the GT-001 as a whole. I’ve got custom artwork on these from Half Sumo Collective… I hope you guys dig them as much as I do.Luckily, there aren’t many Roland-specific concepts limited to the BOSS GT-001 that you won’t already know if you’ve used audio effects and DSP (digital signal processing) before. In addition to the guitar input, an XLR mic input is included for capturing vocals or acoustic instruments, and the built-in USB audio/MIDI interface provides a direct connection for creating music with your favorite DAW. Easily capture guitar, microphone or acoustic instruments and revitalise the bland, boring tones you hear on every record into something new and creative with ease. Premium amps and effects in a stylish desktop unit • Includes BOSS’ latest COSM amp models, powerful MDP effects, and more • Flexible routing of amps and effects through two effect chains • Advanced multi-channel USB audio/MIDI interface for flexible recording and efficient re-amping • Compatible with GT-100 Version 2. But digital processing power grew, and with it came advancements like the TB-303 and TR-909 (I’m focusing on Roland here, due to the BOSS name).

html) which allows non-class-compliant USB devices like the BOSS products to be controlled via 5-pin MIDI. while others help us to improve your experience by providing insights into how the site is being used. Powered by newly developed BOSS technology, this cool and convenient function is great fun when working with Roland? The software also makes it easy to organise and archive patches, and to load them as needed for different songs and styles. For acoustic guitars we will check the functions of the EQ system and controls as weel as check the internal cabling and jack socket. For a long time, I’ve had a “max slider” testing method, which involves just setting everything to its maximum possible value and seeing what happens. The GT-001 is not just a guitar processor-you can also connect a mic to capture vocal and acoustic instrument performances into your DAW. Via a single USB cable, the GT-001 functions as a high-quality audio interface for your Mac or Windows computer.
