If you’ve heard it’s unreliable, it certainly can be, but it’s unreliable in the way a fine racehorse can be unreliable. My Brompton has become my favourite bicycle, and Brompton the company is the inspiration for what my own company, CHPT3, can become. This is obviously written with a ‘factory’ hat on, so a slightly different perspective to our book ‘Brompton Bicycle’, but Will is very honest about the things he might have done differently with the benefit of hindsight.

Unsurprisingly there is bit of proselytising for the cause of cycling as the solution to transport in cities along the lines of car is always bad and bike is always good. uma ótima leitura para quem deseja conhecer a história de uma das mais interessantes bicicletas dobráveis do mundo, a Brompton. Anyone interested in managing enterprises should read this as it has some perceptive insights into the real issues of managing people to achieve a goal. Railway author David Henshaw tells the story of the locomotive, the people who worked the beds and the railway that refused to die .Not all have been digitised, but we’re gradually working backwards, and we now have a digital archive of over 70 issues. William Butler-Adams in telling the transitional move from a niche folding bicycle maker creating a few thousand cycles a year to a British icon which today will soon make 100,000 cycles a year and maybe half a million cycles a year once the US operations get going is a gripping read. Brompton Bicycle, from Excellent Books, tells the fascinating story behind one of the world’s most unusual and popular folding bikes. Many businesses have transitioned from being owned and led by the founder, to having a new management team: the phasing out of Brompton's creator, Andrew Ritchie, wasn't easy, and Butler-Adams provides a candid account of the stressful period over the course of a chapter, and the challenge of 'Founder's syndrome'.

The story of how the Brompton came about – from a sketched idea by engineer and Brompton founder Andrew Ritchie, to a bike with major sales throughout the world today. Apex was reprinted in 1990, and we got a bit busy with other things for the next thirty years, then we realised that the Imp had become an iconic masterpiece of 1960s engineering and design for a new generation. The story of the Brompton from conception to today is excellent in its technical development story as well as the growth of the workforce. While this new publication will still be of interest to Brompton riders, they won't be the main audience. That's a great over-simplification, and doesn't actually give away any trade secrets, but it's rare for outsiders to have access to such information.
